Legibility Score
Rankport's Legibility Score is a 0-100 metric that measures how readable a site is to both search engines and AI answer engines, across four sub-scores.
What it is
The Legibility Score is Rankport's composite measure of how readable a site is to both traditional search engines and AI answer engines. It runs from 0 to 100 and is built from four sub-scores:
- Crawlability: can bots and AI crawlers actually access and index your content?
- Structure: are your pages well-organised with clear headings, semantic HTML, and logical information architecture?
- AI Answers: does your content include the signals (schema markup, real text, structured data) that AI answer engines rely on to cite and quote your pages?
- Performance: are your pages fast enough to be prioritised by crawlers and not penalised in ranking?
Score bands
- 80-100: strong legibility; minor improvements may still be available
- 50-79: amber range; specific, identifiable gaps that are holding you back
- 0-49: significant issues; likely invisible to AI answer engines and under-indexed by search
Why one score
The Legibility Score is designed to replace the need to track SEO and AEO as separate workstreams. Most of what matters is shared. One number gives a fast read on overall health; the four sub-scores pinpoint where to focus.
